2010 Potato Ranch Rally

Ok, this post has failed a couple times already (user error), but this time I’m going to make it go… I promise.  Big ride this weekend, 1500-someodd miles to be semi-precise.  Rather than putz around talking about it, I’ll just narrate with photos:

The bike parking area on our arrival:

Tent city.  Note the ‘stealth tent’ hiding in the middle.  Very comfy.

We’re off to dinner, except that Charley can’t drive Jo’s Mercedes.  Doesn’t fit.

After dinner, light preparations were made.  Mostly to be consumed around the bonfire on Saturday.  Better to prep before we got back from the ride.  Plus, the cages have more beverage storage capacity anyway…

Bikes all tucked in for the night:

First stop of the day on Saturday:

Next stop, Molas Pass.  Altitude 10910′:

Next pass, altitude over 11k feet…

The ever present support crew:

El Jefe hamming it up:

The obligatory ‘everbody photo’:

Lunch in Ouray:

Missed this pullout, definitely glad I turned around for some photos:

The assembled group, minus our ‘fuzz busted’ Josh.  No ticket.  Beautimus!

Bike parking after the ride:

Clair then tried to get on the ‘Tard… and a bunch of other people proved they’re taller than him.

Now, to add to the ridiculousness, Charley flat-foots the tank on the Ninja two-fiddy:

Jo’s neighbor could almost get over the tank as well:

Now, Charley on Clair’s ST:

Fits better from the back seat:

And then….  BONFIRE!

Dancin, dancin, dancin!

I believe the comment was: “look at the control he has with that thing!”

One of the best portraits I’ve taken to date:

MissyB and I decided to make the trip back into a 2-day run, considering we had planned to get back to Tucson around 5 or 6pm Monday, but given the forecast calling for 107+ there, we figured getting halfway and then starting early could get us in before it got too bad.  We were mostly right.  The thermostat in southwest Colorado, southeast Utah, and northeast Arizona was apparently stuck on ‘Hell’ Sunday afternoon.  Discretion being the better part of valor, I decided to pass up the ‘right at 40k’ picture, and just pull over once (5 miles later) at the Utah border:

Way too much of this going on, seriously need a bike with longer legs:

Bluff, UT:

And finally, the overlook we saw on the way by coming up through Salt River Canyon on the way there:
