Noisier quiet, or quieter noise, not sure which.

So I finally got around to messing with the MGP growler exhaust that came with Beaker again.  May have mentioned it before, but this thing, unmodified, is STUPID loud.  Like 108db+ loud.  I tried building a baffle for it a couple of months back and it was pretty much a miserable failure.  However, after doing some more research I figured I’d try again.  I started with a 4″ baffle for a 2″ pipe:

…offset from the side of the exhaust with one extra nut, so it looked something like this:

While that setup did help, due to the engine exhaust pulse differences between a Ninja 250 and a ZX6r, it still wasn’t enough.  I took the 2-1/4″  hole saw I had modified to build the original baffle, and added an exhaust gasket out of one of the 2″ outer diameter gaskets from the stock Superhawk pipes I still had laying in a corner of the garage.  When cut so that it will wrap around the baffle tube inside the hole saw, it just barely leaves enough room to slide 3 washers in between the baffle and hole saw, to take up the gap and allow everything to be pulled tight with one bolt.  You can just make out the gasket material around the baffle on the left side of this pic:

With the washers in place, the whole apparatus bolts up tight and stays oriented straight down the exhaust tube can:

While this setup does technically pass the SAE volume test, it was still a bit too loud for me to ride without it bugging me, so I ordered the 8″ version of the pipe in the first picture above… and it worked great!  The exhaust volume is just below the level of ambient wind noise on the highway, which isn’t too bad.  I normally wear earplugs with the S&S helmet anyway, so this works out great.  Additionally, it really cleans up the lines of the bike, and between the exhaust swap and passenger peg delete, I’ve dropped just over 9 lbs.:
