Today is not my day.

I got a text earlier today thanking me for my service. I’m glad I’m here to get those texts. But today is not for me. Today is for those who aren’t here to get those texts. Today is 2LT Jeff Graham’s day. Jeff was a Pershing Rifles brother at Kentucky. He died leading a foot patrol west of Baghdad in 2004. Today is PFC John Bishop and 1LT Tim Cunningham’s day. They were from 1-32 CAV, 1st BCT, 101st Airborne, and I was in a screening position with my MiTT team about a half-kilometer south of where their vehicle incident occurred during Operation San Jacinto in Golden Hills, Iraq in 2008. Things didn’t go to plan that day, and two guys didn’t make it home. I’m no hero, I’m just some guy who made it home.

All gave some. Some gave all. Remember the fallen, and if you need help reach out.
