Shooting Varmints

I managed to shoot a couple of coyotes on the way to work today…


These two had just given up on chasing a rabbit through a home construction site.


This one got interested in some noise off toward the highway.


Managed to pull up to within about 20 feet of this one off to the passenger side of the car…

And then it turned to check out what the noise was when I whistled at it:

I really prefer to use the center autofocus point exclusively, but since the light was weird (just after sunrise) and I wasn’t sure how many shots I’d get, I switched the camera on full auto and just blazed away as I got the chance.  this one would have been DEAD on in focus if the camera had picked the center point, but the electronic brain wasn’t quite smart enough.  Maybe I’ll shoot in ‘Program’ mode just to get the exposure right, but so I can also pick the autofocus point so the camera doesn’t pick wrong.  Still, not a bad picture given I was shooting out of a just stopped car early enough in the morning that my caffeine fix hadn’t fully taken yet…
