{"id":4550,"date":"2018-11-15T12:00:21","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T20:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/52.14.234.116\/?p=4550"},"modified":"2018-11-15T12:09:27","modified_gmt":"2018-11-15T20:09:27","slug":"unpretentious-words-explaining-pretentious-ones-or-why-modern-art-sucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.galaxieman.com\/?p=4550","title":{"rendered":"Unpretentious words explaining pretentious ones: Or, why Modern Art sucks."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently got turned onto an article which very eloquently explains why modern art, and it&#8217;s basis in nihilism and relativism is well and truly terrible.\u00a0 Not just as &#8216;art&#8217; but as a bellweather for decline in society.\u00a0 Succinctly, &#8216;truth&#8217; is an objective thing, despite all the overly-wordy &#8216;art-speak&#8217; denigrating the work of actual masters.\u00a0 &#8216;Abstract art&#8217; is neither abstract (e.g. a blueprint is an abstract of a building, while random splotches of paint on canvas are not a recognizable distillation of <em><strong>anything<\/strong><\/em>), nor art, and especially not fine art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go there, and <a href=\"https:\/\/artrenewal.org\/Article\/Title\/the-philosophy-of-arc\">read the whole thing<\/a>. I&#8217;ve thought this for years, but have never been able to put into such succinct verbiage the &#8216;gut feeling&#8217; which is in complete agreement with the folks over at the Art Renewal Center where this article is hosted.\u00a0 Fine art photography follows the template they espouse, since it is the promotion of a universal language, expressing the feelings and highlighting the subject of the artist.\u00a0 It also requires the development of skill with the tools of the trade, and while development of that skill is initially easier than with pencil, pen, paint, and paper, that skill still matters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NB: The &#8216;art&#8217; shown as the featured image is &#8220;Black Fire I&#8221;, which sold for $84M.
